Changelog
Every change in TabDiary, newest first.
v0.22.0
- Fixed Moving a session to the trash never reached your other devices. The deletion was recorded, but not in the field sync uses to notice a change — so a session deleted on one machine stayed in the list on every other one, and could be pushed back to life if that machine later edited it. Deleting a folder had the same fault.
- Fixed A single oversized session could silently stop sync for good. The queue retried the failed item forever and held back everything behind it. Permanent failures are now set aside so the rest keeps flowing.
- Added A fair-use ceiling on synced data — 200 MB per account. A heavy library of two thousand sessions is about 44 MB, so this sits roughly eight times above real use. It exists so sync can stay a single payment instead of a yearly one. Reaching it removes nothing: your sessions stay put, what is already synced stays synced, and only new uploads pause until you clear a little space. The free version has no limit at all — sessions on your own disk cost nothing to keep.
- Changed Sync is $14.49 once. Still one payment, still not per year. See Pricing.
v0.21.5
- Changed The download is 213 KB instead of 997 KB. Release builds no longer carry debugging data that only the developer could use — and that also handed anyone who installed the extension a full copy of its source.
v0.21.4
- Fixed Text sizes were inconsistent across the interface. "All" and "Trash" in the sidebar rendered larger than every row between them, and a second size was doing the same job as another in 22 places. The scale is down from six sizes to four.
v0.21.3
- Changed Automatic backup has been removed. It created too many near-identical entries in the session list, and the case for it was weaker than it looked: Chrome already restores tabs after a crash and reopens closed windows with Ctrl+Shift+T. Snapshots already on your machine are left alone — they're ordinary sessions now, delete them if you want.
- Changed One fewer permission to grant, since the reminder scheduling it needed is gone too.
v0.21.2
- Fixed "Save & close all" still didn't close anything from the popup. Opening the replacement tab takes focus, and Chrome destroys a popup the moment it loses focus — so the instruction that closes the tabs never ran. It now happens in the background, where nothing can interrupt it.
v0.21.1
- Fixed "Save & close all" saved your tabs but never closed them. The step that keeps the window alive tried to open a
chrome:// page, which Chrome blocks extensions from doing — so it failed and stopped the close from ever running.
- Changed After closing, you now land on TabDiary's full page instead of a blank tab — so you immediately see the sessions you just saved.
- Added "Save & close all" on the full-page view too, where it closes everything without opening an extra tab.
- Fixed TabDiary's own pages are no longer saved into your sessions, or closed along with them.
v0.21.0
- Added Sync is now a paid feature — a single payment, not a subscription. Everything else stays free: the trash, version history, automatic backups, import and export. Signing in is still free; sync is what unlocks. See Pricing.
- Added Refunds within 30 days, and they take effect properly — sync switches off, but nothing is deleted. Your sessions stay on your device and Export still works.
v0.20.0
- Added Automatic backup every 30 minutes. Everything else here can only rescue work you already pressed Save on. This covers the other case — a crash, or closing a 40-tab window before saving. The last 5 snapshots are kept, marked "Auto" in the list, and it can be switched off in the sidebar.
- Added Restore a session into a new window instead of mixing its tabs into the one you're working in.
- Added Saving now tells you how many duplicate tabs it skipped, rather than dropping them silently.
- Fixed The "Add to Chrome" button on this site had grey text on its indigo background, and lost its background entirely on hover.
v0.19.1
- Fixed Every view now reads from one shared source, so the popup, side panel and full page can never show different lists.
v0.19.0
- Added Import from OneTab and Session Buddy. Switching to TabDiary no longer means leaving years of saved tabs behind — export from either one and open the file here.
- Added Keyboard shortcuts.
Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+E saves the current window, Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+L opens the full page. Rebindable in Chrome's shortcut settings.
- Added Right-click menu — save every tab in the window, or just the current one, without opening the popup.
- Changed Duplicate tabs are dropped when saving. Three tabs on the same page used to restore as three identical tabs.
v0.18.0
- Added Import. Export has existed since the first release, but there was never a way to bring the file back — so a backup wasn't really a backup. Now it is, and moving to a new machine no longer needs syncing.
- Fixed Export was silently leaving out your folder structure. Restoring from one of those files would have left sessions orphaned and invisible. Exports now contain everything.
- Changed Import only ever adds. Anything already here is left untouched, so restoring a backup can never overwrite work you just did.
v0.17.1
- Changed Syncing no longer runs a full fetch every time you open the popup, which cuts its cost roughly threefold. Signing in and reconnecting after being offline still fetch immediately.
v0.17.0
- Added A welcome email the first time you sign in — once per account, never again. No newsletter.
v0.16.0
- Fixed The session list didn't refresh after a sync finished — you kept seeing the old list until you reopened the popup.
- Fixed Clicking your avatar signed you out immediately, with no confirmation. The avatar is now display-only; signing out needs its own button and always asks first.
- Added Your language, brightness and background settings now sync across devices too.
v0.15.0
- Added TabDiary can open as a side panel — a dock beside the browser window that stays open while you work, instead of a popup that closes the moment you click elsewhere.
v0.14.1
- Changed Signing in from the popup now opens the full page and signs you in there. Chrome still closes the popup the instant the Google window appears, so you saw it vanish with no feedback even though it had worked — moving to a real tab makes the whole thing visible.
v0.14.0
- Fixed Signing in with Google from the popup silently did nothing. Chrome closes the popup as soon as the Google window appears, which killed the sign-in halfway through. It now runs in the background, where closing the popup can't interrupt it.
v0.13.0
- Added Cross-device sync. Sign in with Google and your sessions follow you between machines. Optional — TabDiary never contacts a server unless you sign in. See Pricing.
v0.12.0
- Added Saving a window that uses Chrome tab groups now creates one session per group, named after the group, instead of flattening everything into a single session.
v0.11.3
- Fixed The "Pro — coming soon" badge in the popup header now has its text properly centered.
v0.11.2
- Fixed The Aurora Glow background no longer stutters when you move your cursor quickly — it's now a purely ambient effect that doesn't react to the pointer at all.
v0.11.1
- Fixed Interactive background styles now render correctly on the full-page view (previously they were silently hidden behind the page's own background).
v0.11.0
- Added Full Vietnamese translation, switchable instantly from a new Language menu — no reload required.
- Added A cleaner, more polished toggle switch used throughout the interface.
v0.10.0
- Added Four optional, interactive background styles — Carbon Weave, Circuit Trace, Blueprint Grid, and Aurora Glow — selectable from a new Background menu. Off by default; the classic flat look is unchanged unless you opt in.
v0.9.0
- Changed Replaced the old System/Light/Dark toggle with a smooth 5-level brightness slider, so you can land on exactly the brightness that's comfortable for you instead of picking between two extremes.
v0.8.0
- Added A manual theme toggle in both the popup and full-page view, cycling System → Light → Dark.
v0.7.0
- Changed Light theme now has real visual depth — session and folder cards sit on a tinted page background with a visible shadow, instead of blending into a flat white page.
v0.6.0
- Changed Deleting a folder now moves the folder and everything inside it to Trash together, recoverable as one unit within 30 days — instead of silently scattering its contents.
- Added A confirmation dialog before deleting a folder, showing exactly how many sessions will move with it.
- Added Folder cards now show session count and last-activity time at a glance, matching session cards.
- Added Trash now lists deleted folders alongside deleted sessions.
v0.5.0
- Fixed Sessions saved directly under "All" (not inside any folder) now correctly appear in the sidebar.
- Added A resizable sidebar — drag the divider to resize, and it stays that way next time you open the page.
- Added
Ctrl++ / Ctrl+- to zoom the sidebar and main panel independently of your browser's own zoom.
v0.4.1
- Fixed The sidebar and main panel could occasionally disagree about what a folder contained. Both now read from a single, always-in-sync source.
v0.4.0
- Added Drag and drop in the full-page view — drag any session or folder onto another folder (or "All") to move it.
- Added Pin any session or folder to keep it at the top of its list.
v0.3.0
- Added A full-page management view with a nested folder tree, breadcrumb navigation, and per-tab restore — open it from the popup's expand icon.
- Added Move any session into a different folder from its detail view.
- Fixed Pressing Enter while renaming a session or creating a folder could occasionally create it twice.
v0.2.0
- Added Rename a saved session at any time.
- Added Remove a single tab from a saved session without deleting the whole thing.
- Added Version history — every rename or tab removal is snapshotted, and any of the last 5 versions can be restored with one click.
- Added Toast confirmations for Save, Delete, and Export, with an inline Undo on delete.
- Fixed Dark mode now actually follows your system setting.
- Fixed A session with exactly 1 tab no longer says "1 tabs".
- Changed "Save only" is now the primary button — TabDiary's whole point is that saving never risks losing anything, so that's the action we lead with.
v0.1.0
- Initial release: save, close, restore, and search sessions; 30-day trash; full JSON export.
